Remote Working

A recent study found almost half of businesses in the European Union have provided employees with a portable device to enable them to work remotely. The survey from Eurostat found 48% of companies across EU member states had embraced this flexible approach and the implications of this are wide-ranging for businesses.

Increasing workforce mobility and worker empowerment are being fed by legislation emphasising work/life balance and the increasing consumerisation of IT. Statistics revealed more than a quarter of email opens now occur on mobile devices.

Successful businesses in this changing economy will be those that embrace mobility and give employees the flexibility to work from any location or device. However, research from Skype and YouGov has found that while 70% of people want to work from home more often, over half are working for companies where this is not allowed. So, if business managers are seemingly being tempted by remote working what is stopping them fully committing?
