Right, since we’re writing this article, we’ll start with ourselves. We’re not pretending to be neutral, but we do believe we’ve built something that genuinely helps finance teams slash admin without sacrificing control.
Our platform is best suited for companies with 50 to 400 employees, but we work with much bigger teams, too. We don’t do tiered pricing. Pleo: Great if you’re card-first
Pleo is a popular option for smaller to mid-sized companies that want to give teams more freedom to spend using company cards. It’s slick, modern, and built around the idea of employees spending directly, then explaining it after.
They offer four pricing plans, starting from £39/month and going up to £179/month, depending on your features and team size. Just keep in mind: if everyone needs a card, the cost can climb quickly – you’ll pay even if the card isn’t used.
Pleo’s reviews are strong:

It works well for teams that want to ditch reimbursements and go all-in on company cards. But if your employees prefer using their own cards and claiming back – or if you need policy control and custom rules, you might find the system a bit limited.
Pleo’s card is very much its primary product. So while the card is great, users with more complex needs might find that it lags in other areas like mileage tracking or traditional reimbursement on those occasions where people pay out-of-pocket.
Payhawk: Built for big, complex setups
Payhawk is aimed at larger, often global, teams. It offers advanced spend management tools, deep integrations, and multi-entity functionality. If you need granular control and reporting across borders, it’s worth looking into.
That power comes at a price. The starter plan is $20/month, but more realistic pricing is $205/month or even $525/month for larger teams using their Premier tier. The highest-tier features – like bulk uploads, advanced analytics, and card management – aren’t available on the lower plans.
Support is also tiered, and there are known UX issues – no folder submissions from mobile, which slows down claims and approvals.

Payhawk’s strength is scale, but it can feel overwhelming if you don’t have the team or time to manage its complexity.
What about SAP Concur?
SAP Concur is still the go-to for many enterprises, and there’s a reason for that. It’s well-established, integrates with complex systems, and covers a lot of bases. But it can feel like overkill for many teams.
Here’s what we hear most when speaking to businesses who are weighing us up against SAP Concur (or indeed, some clients who’ve moved from Concur to us – like our client Fulham FC, who moved to us from Concur – you canread their story here).
- Pricing isn’t public, so you don’t know where you stand until the sales call.
- The interface can feel clunky, dated and unintuitive (which hinders widespread adoption in the organisation).
- Support quality varies based on your account size.
- It’s heavily US-focused, which can be tricky for UK teams.

Whether you go with Pleo, Payhawk, or someone else entirely, make sure you’re not paying extra for essentials like support or standard features.
