If you’re comparing Webexpenses (that’s us!) with Soldo, it helps to know upfront that we’re not really solving the same problem. So it’s less a question of ‘Webexpenses vs Soldo’ and more a question of which need your business is trying to solve.
We’ve built Webexpenses as a dedicated expense management platform, one place for every type of spend your team makes: out-of-pocket claims, mileage, invoices and card transactions, with unlimited cashback built in along the way.
Soldo takes a different route. It’s a prepaid card and spend control tool, and it does that well if you intend on running your company spend through its own cards (though pricing per user and per card can add up as your team grows).
If you need expense management with cards as an add-on rather than the whole product, we’re the better fit. If you’re happy centring your spend around a prepaid card system and don’t mind paying per card on top of per user, then Soldo has its uses.
So that’s the headline comparison. Now, we’ll walk through us vs. Soldo in more detail below.
Expense management vs. Spend management
It’s helpful here to define what expense management is, what spend management is, and how they’re different.
Expense management refers to the process of capturing, approving, reimbursing and reporting on everything your team spends: mileage, out-of-pocket purchases, subscriptions, travel and corporate card transactions.
Spend management, by contrast, is a broader category built around controlling money before it leaves the business, typically through prepaid or company cards with rules attached.
Soldo sits in the second camp. It’s a Mastercard prepaid card platform with wallets, spend rules and reporting layered on top. You load funds into wallets, issue cards from those wallets, and set limits on who can spend what. It works well if your business runs almost entirely through Soldo cards.
Webexpenses is built the other way round. We’re an expense management platform first, covering every type of spend your team makes, with Corporate Cashback Cards available as a free, flexible addition rather than the centrepiece.
If you want a single platform that handles claims, mileage, invoices and cards together, that distinction matters.
How the pricing stacks up
Soldo prices per user and per card, with wallets and outbound transfers capped by tier. Its Standard plan starts at £21 a month plus VAT, covering just 3 users and 3 cards. Move up to the Plus plan and you’re at £33 a month plus VAT, still with only 3 users and 3 cards included as standard.
Add more people or cards, and the cost climbs from there. Enterprise-level features, like automated expense categorisation or custom approval workflows, sit behind a “price on request” Unlimited tier.
Webexpenses starts from £7.50 per user per month, with all the features you need to automate your expense management included from day one rather than gated behind higher tiers. Pricing is based on a contracted number of active users each month.
If usage spikes above that baseline, you pay overage on the extra users rather than restructuring your whole contract.
There are no separate charges for wallets, and no need to negotiate a custom quote just to unlock features like automatic categorisation.
Cashback: a genuine point of difference
This is one of the clearest gaps between the two platforms. Soldo doesn’t offer cashback. It’s a prepaid model: you load funds, employees spend from wallets, and the money’s gone. There’s no mechanism for your business to earn anything back on that spend.
With Webexpenses, you can earn up to 0.75% unlimited cashback on every transaction made with your Webexpenses Card, with no threshold, no category restrictions and no cap.
Spend on travel, software subscriptions or supplier payments, and you earn every time. For a business processing meaningful card volume each month, that’s a straightforward way to offset your subscription cost, something Soldo’s model simply isn’t built to do.
Everyday usability and the mobile app
Soldo’s mobile app lets employees capture receipts and request funds on the go, and reviewers generally rate it as easy to pick up. Where things get more complicated is around VAT and categorisation.
On the Standard plan, split transactions aren’t supported at all, so a single supplier invoice covering multiple VAT rates or categories has to be handled manually. Multi-VAT splitting is only available on the top-tier Unlimited plan, and automatic expense categorisation is restricted to that same tier.
For a business on Standard or Plus, that means more manual correction work for your finance team, not less.
Mileage reimbursement also isn’t included on Soldo’s entry-level Standard plan. If your team claims mileage regularly, you’d need to move up to Plus at minimum just to capture it properly.
Webexpenses handles VAT and categorisation from the outset, with a full audit trail across every transaction type, out-of-pocket, mileage and card spend alike, logged and visible before anything reaches your accounting system. This isn’t a premium add-on. It’s part of the standard platform.
Support when you actually need it
Soldo’s Standard and Plus customers get live chat, email support and training webinars during business hours. A dedicated Customer Success Manager is reserved for the Unlimited tier, so smaller and mid-sized customers are working with general support channels rather than a named point of contact.
At our Scale tier and above, anyone at your company can reach our support team, not just the system administrator, with English-speaking teams based in the UK and APAC. Outside office hours, our AI assistant Wade is available immediately, and a named person follows up as soon as our team is back online.
Accounts payable: a gap for card-first platforms
Expense claims and card spend are only part of the picture. If your business also processes supplier invoices, purchase orders and goods received, that’s accounts payable, and it’s a separate workload from expense management.
Soldo’s platform is built around cards and wallets, so invoice-heavy AP work, matching a supplier invoice against a purchase order and a delivery note, sits outside what it’s designed to do.
On the other hand, we do AP within our ecosystem. Invoices are captured and coded automatically, then matched against purchase orders and goods received using two and three-way matching, so mismatches get flagged before they turn into overpayments.
It runs on usage-based pricing rather than per-user licensing, so approvers aren’t an extra cost. For a business trying to bring expenses, cards and invoices under one roof instead of stitching together separate tools, that’s a meaningful difference.

Why teams choose Webexpenses
Webexpenses gives you one platform for every type of spend your business generates: out-of-pocket claims, mileage, invoices, petty cash and card transactions, all reconciled in the same place rather than split across a card tool and a separate expense process.
That matters most at month-end, when your finance team needs one clean audit trail rather than several partial ones. Where your invoice volume calls for dedicated accounts payable automation, we cover that too.
You get Corporate Cards as part of that platform, not as the product itself, so you’re not forced to restructure how your business banks just to get better spend visibility. Cashback runs on every eligible transaction with no cap, categorisation and VAT handling work the same way regardless of your plan.
Pricing is transparent from the outset too. You’ll know what you’re paying per active user, with no hidden charges for extra modules and no need to jump to a custom quote just to unlock features that should be standard.
For a business that wants expense management done properly, with cards as a bonus rather than a constraint, that combination is hard to match.
